- The San Diego Police Department’s 275 volunteers were honored recently at the annual Volunteer Appreciation Day. "I couldn't be more proud of this group," said Chief David Nisleit. "From patrol to the crime lab to crisis intervention, child abuse, criminal intelligence, you name it, especially right now, they are invaluable to us." San Diego would not be America’s Finest City without them. (CBS News 8)
- A proposed ordinance could provide renters with protection from eviction. Renters would need to continue to pay rent and fulfill their lease requirements in order to remain in their apartments. The City of San Diego believes this approach will help solve both the housing and homelessness crises in the city. (Patch)
- Under the plan for Civic Center Revitalization, the city would declare five downtown city-owned blocks as surplus land that is no longer required for municipal use. The land would then be subject to the state’s Surplus Land Act, a form of eminent domain. If approved by the City Council, San Diego will move to build a new City Hall near the area. (San Diego Metropolitan)
- While you cannot take a wild animal home as your pet, you can symbolically adopt the wildlife of your choice and help provide care through a sponsorship program. Your sponsorship would provide a habitat, food and medical care. Facilities that care for these animals need donations to provide for wildlife. To find out how you can help, click here.
