SAN FRANCISCO, CA — More than 20,000 PG&E customers in Northern California are without power Thursday night, the majority as a result of Public Safety Power Shutoffs as the company voluntarily de-energizes power lines that could spark wildfires during high winds.

At 7:45 p.m., the power shutoffs reached from the North Bay to Shasta Lake. By 10 p.m., Alameda, Contra Costa and Stanislaus had joined the list of counties included in the power shutoff.

PG&E Power Outage map taken at 7:45 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17, 2024.

The power shutoffs could reach all the way down to Santa Barbara County, as the list below shows.

A Red Flag Warning is scheduled to take effect at 11 p.m. and last to Saturday. At nearly 8 p.m., the highest wind gust of 42 mph had been recorded at Mt. St. Helena.

Thursday morning, the company projected that it would shut off power to some 20,000 customers as a Red Flag Warning from the National Weather Service took effect.

"The duration and extent of power outages will depend on the weather in each area, and not all customers will be affected for the entire period," the company said.
