📰 News we're reading

1. Waymo pauses San Francisco service amid severe weather (ktvu.com) — Waymo has temporarily halted its driverless taxi service in San Francisco because of severe weather and a flash flood warning, with service resuming only when conditions are safe. The pause follows last weekend’s outage-related robotaxi problems that blocked intersections across the city, renewing concerns from local officials about how these vehicles behave during emergencies.

2. SFPD's Honda Unit Arrests Haleem Williams (thesfnews.com) — San Francisco police say they arrested a 49-year-old man after a series of undercover drug buys that began at a Golden Gate Park music festival and ended near Mint and Mission streets. Officers report seizing suspected MDMA pills, a loaded ghost gun, and other evidence, and the case remains under investigation. Anyone with information is urged to contact SFPD or use Text-A-Tip.

3. Winter weather keeps travelers waiting at SFO as delays stretch into the night (localnewsmatters.org) — If you’re flying through SFO, expect lingering delays after a PG&E-related power issue briefly darkened parts of the airport and winter weather triggered federal arrival limits. Runway lights and terminal power were restored quickly, but hundreds of flights still faced delays, so travelers should check directly with their airlines before heading out.

4. U.S. auto safety agency probes Tesla Model 3 emergency door release (cnbc.com) — Federal auto-safety officials are investigating whether Tesla Model 3 emergency door releases are too hard to find or use, after a defect petition targeting 2022 cars. For Bay Area readers, the issue hits close to home: families of two students killed in a Cybertruck crash in a San Francisco suburb have also sued, alleging its door design trapped them in a burning vehicle.

5. What were the most fun cities in America this year? (newsnationnow.com) — San Franciscans can take pride that the city ranks among WalletHub’s top five U.S. destinations for entertainment and nightlife this year. The list highlights classic local draws like Alcatraz, major museums, and a lively club scene, while comparing San Francisco with other “fun” cities such as Las Vegas, Orlando, and Miami.
