3+ Inches Of Rain Possible Later This Week: Bay Area Forecast
The Bay Area's next shift in weather is on the doorstep, and forecasters are tracking a very rainy turn for the region.
SAN FRANCISCO — Rainy weather is set to return to the Bay Area and the region could be in for a late-week soaking after an initial burst of precipitation in the forecast Tuesday night.
According to the National Weather Service, the overnight system could bring up to a half-inch of rain to San Francisco, the North Bay and the East Bay, with up to an inch possible around Half Moon Bay.
Forecasters said the bulk of this week's rain is weighted toward the end, with multiple inches possible across NorCal between Friday and Monday. Early forecasts suggest up to 6 inches of rain could fall around Cloverdale during that timeframe, with 3 to 4 inches likely elsewhere in the North Bay, 2 to 3 inches around San Francisco and the Peninsula, and 1.5 to 2 inches favored for much of the East Bay and South Bay.

More details on timing and daily rainfall amounts should come into focus over the next few days, but the forecast favors the rainiest period to arrive over the weekend.
"Plan on wet weather this weekend, especially on Sunday when the polar/subtropical jet stream pushes a low-pressure system through to the east," NWS Bay Area forecasters wrote Tuesday. "Showers lingering mainly Monday morning."

The shift toward wetter weather looks to coincide with warmer temperatures, with afternoon highs poised to climb back into the 60s for many after Tuesday. After an arctic blast impacted much of the nation last weekend, fresh climate outlooks favor a warmer and wetter trend developing through the end of January.
