Alleged San Francisco Purse Snatcher Arrested, One Other Still at Large

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A man was arrested Wednesday evening after allegedly snatching a woman's purse in San Francisco's Outer Mission district, police said. At about 7:23 p.m., two men stole a woman's purse near Hearst and Circular avenues.

A police sergeant from the Taraval station saw a silver Honda leaving the area erratically, driving north on Interstate Highway 280 and then south on U.S. Highway 101. The woman told responding officers that she was able to track her stolen smart phone with an app, police said.

Officers tracked the stolen phone to South San Francisco and responded to Airport Boulevard, where they found the suspect vehicle. The officers activated their red lights and siren, but the suspect vehicle sped off before crashing into a Toyota near the intersection of Gateway Boulevard and East Grand Avenue.

The woman whose car the suspects crashed into was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The suspects ran into a utility company yard, so law enforcement officers from multiple agencies set up a
perimeter to search the area.

One suspect was found in the utility yard and taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries believed to be related to the crash and climbing a barbed-wire fence, police said.

The second suspect is still at large.
