Racial Slur On Receipt Stuns Family, Restaurant Worker Fired: Report

A manager told KTVU the employee responsible was fired and that what happened was "totally unacceptable."

SAN FRANCISCO — A restaurant employee was fired this week after a family dining at the San Francisco establishment found a racial slur on their receipt, according to KTVU.

Whitney Washington and her family were visiting the Bay Area from Maryland and stopped Monday for a bite at Pica Pica Arepa Kitchen, the outlet reported, but after ordering, Washington’s daughter noticed the “n-word” on their receipt.

Washington returned the food and asked for a refund and to see a manager, but was told there were none working, according to KTVU.

"I know some people use that term culturally, interchangeably," Washington told the station. "That is not a term I use in my home. I don't use that word, we don't call people that word and nobody calls us that word."

A manager named Vena later told KTVU that after she learned of the incident, the employee responsible was fired and that what happened was “totally unacceptable.” Police also confirmed to the outlet that they were notified of the racial slur.
