Hundreds Of Flights Delayed, Dozens Canceled At SFO: FlightAware
The FAA announced a two-hour ground delay for flights arriving at SFO Monday. The airport has seen hundreds of delays the past few days.
SAN FRANCISCO, CA — The Federal Aviation Administration announced a two-hour ground delay for arriving flights to San Francisco International Airport due to ongoing rain and wind.
While the average delay lasts 121 minutes, most arriving travelers will experience delays of around 30-45 minutes, SFO spokesperson Doug Yakel told SFGate.
313 delays and 22 cancellations were reported at SFO on Monday as of 11:30 a.m., according to flight tracker FlightAware. The past few days have been equally hectic at SFO. According to FlightAware, 316 delays and 5 cancellations were reported Sunday, 292 delays and 7 cancellations were reported Saturday, and on Friday, a whopping 671 delays and 69 cancellations were reported.

By contrast, Oakland International Airport and San Jose Mineta International Airport have been relatively calm. In Oakland, 12 delays and no cancellations were reported Monday. On Friday, the rainiest day and the last day for which there are records, Oakland recorded 59 delays and 2 cancellations.
San Jose recorded 38 delays and no cancellations Monday, and 90 delays and one cancellation on Friday, according to FlightAware.

The delays and cancellations are due to an aggressive bomb cyclone and atmospheric river that have dumped as much as 12.47 inches of rain on some areas in the North Bay. Santa Rosa reported its second wettest day in 120 years, according to the National Weather Service. On Friday, San Francisco recorded 2.97 inches of rain, while Oakland recorded 2.46 inches of rain, the most either city received in 2024, according to the Bay Area News Group.
In Sonoma County, where floodwater reached six feet in some areas, a man was found dead in a submerged car. In Santa Rosa, a man’s body was found in a creek Saturday morning.
