SAN FRANCISCO, CA — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers in San Francisco have arrested an illegally present man from Guatemala who was convicted of lewd and lascivious acts with a minor, officials said.

Juan Velasquez-Francisco was arrested on Thursday by ICE's Enforcement and Removal Operations in San Francisco. He has been in the U.S. for an unknown amount of time, according to a news release from ICE.

On May 25, 2021, Valasquez was convicted of driving under the influence, which is a misdemeanor. In November of last year, he was convicted of sex with a minor and lewd acts with a minor — both felony offenses, the agency said.

“ERO officers in the San Francisco area of operations are committed to enforcing our nation’s immigration laws against violent criminals, sex offenders and others who pose a threat to public safety," said Orestes Cruz, ERO San Francisco Acting Field Office Director." This arrest is just one example highlighting the work ICE ERO officers perform each day to make our communities safer."

Last week, a San Francisco middle school student was reportedly approached on a Muni bus by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agent, who asked the student for their identification, KRON4 reported.

But ICE has since denied this claim and has told KRON4 that the encounter the student reported was not with a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer.
