Inmate Mistakenly Released from San Francisco Jail Wednesday Turns Himself In

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A man who was mistakenly released from San Francisco County jail Wednesday night has turned himself in this morning, according a spokeswoman with the sheriff's department.

Victor Rodriguez, 20, arrived at the Hall of Justice lobby voluntarily around 8:55 a.m., according to spokeswoman Eileen Hirst. Rodriguez was booked on a bench warrant with no additional charges
in connection with the court clerk error that initially released him from custody, Hirst said.

Rodriguez had been in court on Wednesday to be sentenced on charges related to threats against law enforcement, according to sheriff's officials.

The judge upheld a motion to revoke Rodriguez's probation for three months but dismissed a charge relating to the threats. But the court's clerk erroneously filed paperwork indicating that both charges had been
dismissed and Rodriguez was released at about 10 p.m., sheriff's officials said.

The error was discovered the next morning around 8 a.m. and the sheriff's department alerted Bay Area law enforcement agencies, asking them to be on the lookout for him.
