NORTHERN CALIFORNIA — As we head into the new week, we've rounded up the stories you may have missed Saturday and Sunday to prepare you for Monday.

But before we jump into Northern California's top stories, residents should expect periods of rain, strong wind and cooler temps through the week in the region, according to the National Weather Service.

"Lingering showers dissipate into the afternoon," NWS San Francisco forecasters wrote Monday. "Light chances of rain return Tuesday and increase into Wednesday before exiting Thursday. The higher rainfall amounts will be focused around the Big Sur Coast. Additional rains look to arrive in the late weekend."

In other news, a man died after a wave swept him out to sea; a driver was arrested after he hit multiple pedestrians while he chased after another vehicle; and a schoolteacher was arrested on suspicion of lewd acts with a student.
