Reports say contract negotiations broke down after she was offered reduced pay and hours, leading her to let her contract expire and plan legal action over severance she believes she is owed.

Herz Recreation Center opens in SF, first new rec center in the city in more than 25 years (localnewsmatters.org) — A brand-new Herz Recreation Center has opened in John McLaren Park, giving Sunnydale and Visitacion Valley residents San Francisco’s first ground-up rec center in more than 25 years. The 11,500-square-foot hub features a full basketball court, multipurpose rooms, community spaces, and new outdoor amenities, funded by city bonds, federal grants, and private partners.

San Francisco could allow involuntary medication for those with mental illness (ktvu.com) — San Francisco leaders are backing new state legislation that would let courts order involuntary psychiatric medication for some residents with serious mental illness as part of assisted outpatient treatment. Supporters, including Assemblymember Catherine Stefani and Mayor Daniel Lurie, argue the change is needed to help people too ill to accept care voluntarily, especially amid the city’s homelessness and mental health crises.
   

5. Bay Area demonstrations grow as protests in Iran intensify amid crackdown (ktvu.com) — Iranian Americans and allies packed the area around San Francisco’s Ferry Building this weekend to support protesters in Iran facing a deadly crackdown and internet shutdowns. Local organizers say the opposition movement is more organized than in past uprisings and plan weekly solidarity rallies in San Francisco as demonstrations continue across Iran and other U.S. cities.
