Police Swarm Mission Street, Shut Down Roadway

A block of Mission Street, between 15th and 16th Streets, was closed to the public on Monday afternoon due to a police investigation.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Police activity shut down a segment of a major San Francisco thoroughfare Monday afternoon, and police are advising people to avoid the area.

The San Francisco Police Department issued an advisory Monday afternoon, around 3:30 p.m., to "avoid the area of Mission St between 15th and 16th St due to Police Activity."

"Emergency crews are on scene. Expect traffic delays, consider alternate routes, and allow for additional travel time," police warned.

Helicopters and a drone flew overhead as onlookers gathered beyond the yellow police tape used to block off the area. The 16th Street side of Mission Street is near the 16th Street BART station. Police on the scene were not permitting anyone to enter the area under investigation.

Officers did not provide any information about the incident.
