San Francisco To Buy Haight Street McDonald's: Report
The fast-food restaurant located in the popular San Francisco neighborhood will be turned into affordable housing.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- The local government will buy the Haight Street McDonald's with the hope of turning the location into an affordable housing complex, according to a report by KPIX 5. The city agreed to pay $15.5 million for the land in the popular neighborhood informally dubbed Hashbury.
"The McDonald’s at the corner of Stanyan and Haight streets is known for its brawls and drug busts. It was the scene of a shooting in August and police have been called to the location more than 1,000 times in the past three years," KPIX 5 reported.
Haight and Ashbury streets, across from Golden State Park, is an area known for its hippie culture where, in 1967, people gathered for the "Summer of Love."
