San Francisco Jeweler Wins $750K in Scratchers Lottery Game

"I thought I won $750," Rafi Chabo said in a statement. "I couldn't believe my eyes."

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A Bay Area jeweler won the top prize of $750,000 last week in the $10 Mystery Crossword Scratchers game when he bought a ticket in Burlingame on Thursday, California Lottery officials said today.

Rafi Chabo bought his winning ticket at Kwik & Convenient Market at 505 California Drive but waited until Friday to play.Chabo told lottery officials he couldn't believe his eyes when he played the game and won.

"I thought I won $750," he said in a statement. "I couldn't believe my eyes."

After the win sunk in, he realized he had to wait until Monday to redeem his ticket at the Lottery's San Francisco District Office. Chabo plans to pay off debt, including his daughter's school loans, maybe buy a new car and go on a Caribbean cruise with his wife.

Chabo owns Chabo's Jewelry at 888 Brannan St., Suite 2135 in San Francisco, according to the San Francisco Bay Area and Northern Coastal California Better Business Bureau.
He declined to comment for the story.
