San Francisco Woman Arrested in Alleged Theft of $66K from Elderly Uncle
Ramonia Ates, 59, was ordered to return to court on September 14.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A San Francisco woman was arraigned Thursday on theft charges after she allegedly stole more than $66,000 from her 90-year-old uncle, according to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office.
Ramonia Ates, 59, was arrested Tuesday and arraigned today on charges including theft from an elder adult, identity theft, grand theft by fraud and possession of access card information.
An investigation into Ates began when Wells Fargo fraud investigators contacted Adult Protective Services, who in turn helped the victim report the theft to police. Court records allege Ates, who has lived rent-free with her uncle for the past several years, intercepted her uncle's ATM card when it arrived in the mail in September 2014.

She allegedly used it to withdraw more than $66,000 from her uncle's checking and savings accounts. Ates was released on her own recognizance Thursday and ordered to return to court on September 14. The terms of her release included an order to stay away from any Wells Fargo bank and to avoid contacting her uncle.
