These 2 San Francisco Restaurants Are Among America's Top 50, NYT Says

Of the 50 resturants highlighted by the Times, 32 are newly opened, including both in San Francisco.

SAN FRANCISCO — The New York Times recently announced its 50 favorite restaurants in America for 2024, with two from San Francisco making the cut.

“Over the last 12 months, reporters and editors traveled to nearly every state scouting restaurants for our annual list,” according to the newspaper. “As always, there were no-brainers and tough choices — the United States has a vast, diverse spread of great restaurants these days — but these are our 50 favorites for 2024.”

The San Francisco restaurants named among the nation’s best are Quince and Four Kings. Fikscue in Alameda as well as Camélia and Azizam in Los Angeles were also included. California had more restaurants on the list than any other state.

While Quince first opened in 2003, it recently reopened and is in a redesigned space, according to the Times, which reported the restaurant from Michael and Lindsay Tusk features a seasonal menu and produce grown just up the coast.

"The recently redesigned space feels at once contemporary and timeless," according to the newspaper. "Dinner is an expensive occasion at $390 a person (though you can have a four-course lunch for $175). But when you imagine a perfect California fine-dining restaurant, you’re imagining Quince. You just may not know it until you eat there."

Four Kings opened in March, serving up Cantonese American food from chefs Franky Ho and Mike Long in collaboration with their partners, Millie Boonkokua and Lucy Li, according to the Times.

"Four Kings is breathing much-needed fire into San Francisco’s dining scene," the newspaper raved, noting the establishment's "spot-on vibes and energetic dishes."

Of the 50 resturants highlighted by the Times, 32 are newly opened, including all five in California.
