'Vomit Fees' Pop Up At Bay Area Brunch Restaurants
Bay Area diners who toss back a few too many mimosas at brunch may find themselves with a costly tab.
SAN FRANCISCO — Overindulgence in bottomless mimosas at brunch may prove costly in the Bay Area as more restaurants adopt new policies to discourage messy mishaps.
As KRON reports, Oakland's Kitchen Story started posting notices that diners who misjudge their capacity for bubbly beverages and make a mess can expect to see some collateral damage on their tab.
"Please drink responsibly and know your limits," the sign reads in part. "A $50 cleaning [fee] will [be] automatically included in your [tab] when you throw up in the public areas."

SFGATE detailed the trend after some restaurateurs flagged a growing trend since the pandemic of patrons having a little too much at brunch and throwing up in bathrooms or at the table, leaving staffers to handle the repercussions. At Home Plate, on San Francisco's Lombard Street, the restaurant instituted a $50 fee for "any incident" resulting from intoxication and imposed a time limit for patrons to finish their drinks.
