Officials say more than 1,500 households are at risk despite major gains in shelter capacity and new affordable units, and they’re scrambling to protect families who rely on rent subsidies to stay housed.

San Jose Girl In Month-Long Coma, Community Looking For Help (indiawest.com) — A San Jose-based young woman, Arti Singh, remains in a month-long coma at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center after being struck in a crosswalk near her home. Her father is alone in an unfamiliar city, while local groups like O2B2 and community leaders are organizing legal, social-service, and fundraising support to keep him near her bedside.

Thief steals more than $1,000 worth of Disney Christmas decorations from San Jose home (ktvu.com) — San Jose police are searching for a suspect who stole more than $1,000 in Disney-themed Christmas decorations from outside a local home in early December. Doorbell camera footage shows a masked person repeatedly returning to the yard to remove items, and the homeowner says some decorations were irreplaceable collectibles. Police say the suspect remains at large.

Bay Area attorneys say ICE is violating court order on S.F. holding cells (missionlocal.org) — A federal judge sitting in San Jose is being asked to urgently review whether ICE is skirting his order to improve conditions in San Francisco immigration holding cells by simply moving detainees to a different floor. Bay Area civil rights lawyers say immigrants are still facing cold, cramped conditions and long detentions at the 630 Sansome Street facility despite the November injunction.
