1. Valley Fair mall shooting: Hearing delayed for adults charged as accessories (mercurynews.com) — A key court hearing for three San Jose residents accused of helping a teen flee the Black Friday shooting at Westfield Valley Fair has been postponed to January 12, delaying a decision on whether their cases go to trial. None of the adults are currently jailed, though one remains on home detention, and prosecutors still hope to move the teen suspect’s case into adult court.

2. Grieving parents seek answers after deadly hit-and-run crash in San Jose (nbcbayarea.com) — A 29-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run on McCoy Avenue in South San Jose, and his grieving family is pleading for witnesses and video footage to help identify the driver. Neighbors say speeding and poor lighting make the street dangerous, while police continue investigating without a vehicle description. Loved ones remember him as a warm, joyful presence starting a new career in AI.

3. South Bay Jewish community refuses fear after Australia Bondi Beach mass shooting (ktvu.com) — San Jose’s Jewish community is responding to the Bondi Beach mass shooting with larger Hanukkah gatherings, including a packed menorah lighting at Santana Row, while refusing to be intimidated. After a local antisemitic incident at Branham High, Mayor Matt Mahan and law enforcement say they’re increasing patrols around Jewish schools and synagogues and urging residents to stand in solidarity.

4. Santa Clara County nurses say furloughs hinder patient care (sanjosespotlight.com) — Santa Clara County’s public hospitals, including facilities serving East San Jose, are furloughing nurses, which staff say is worsening wait times and straining care in critical units. The county blames steep federal funding cuts despite a new local sales tax boost, while nurses argue the furloughs violate their contract and undercut the county’s recent effort to restore maternity and newborn services at Regional Medical Center.
