Archie Williams Advances To NCS Softball Quarterfinals

The Peregrine Falcons (9-16) beat rival Tamalpais 5-4 in Tuesday's NCS Division 3 first-round playoff game.

SAN ANSELMO, CA — Sophomore standout Amelia Richer had three hits and two RBI and pitched six solid innings Tuesday as No. 11-seeded Archie Williams High upset No. 6 Tamalpais 5-4 in a North Coast Section Division 3 playoff opener.

The Peregrine Falcons (9-16) advance to Thursday’s quarterfinals, where they’ll face the winner of Wednesday evening’s game between No. 3 San Rafael and No. 14 Campolindo of Moraga.

Senior Abby Murphy had one hit and two RBI, and freshman Paige Murphy had two hits for Archie Williams, which had lost five of its previous six games going into Tuesday.

Richer (2-7) gave up four runs (two earned) on eight hits and two walks in her first win in more than two months. Going into Tuesday Richer hadn’t won March 8, when she pitched a one-hit shutout in a 4-0 nonleague win against Piner of Santa Rosa.

Tamalpais (12-12) experienced its third consecutive loss after winning four straight.
