Marin School Threat Suspect Arrested: Cops

A juvenile suspect threatened to harm students and faculty at a San Rafael middle school, police said.

SAN RAFAEL, CA — A juvenile who threatened to harm students and teachers at a San Rafael middle school was arrested Saturday, police said.

The suspect, whose name was withheld because they are a juvenile, was arrested on suspicion of making criminal threats booked into Marin County Juvenile Hall, police said.

The juvenile did not have the means to carry out the threats against Davidson Middle School, which were made on a social media post, according to police.

The San Rafael Police Department began receiving threats Friday at around 8 p.m., the agency said.

“The threat made statements to harm students and faculty and was taken seriously by other students and parents,” the SRPD said in a statement.

The agency alerted school officials of the threat, telling them that it was being taken seriously and was under investigation, police said.

Investigators contacted the involved social media company to identify the suspect, police said.

“After obtaining information from numerous resources, the location of the suspect was identified,” police said.

On Saturday, detectives went to the residence that was the source of the threat and interviewed the juvenile, police said.

The juvenile was arrested at around 3 p.m., police said.

“During the contact with the juvenile, it was determined that the juvenile did not have the means to carry out the threats that had been posted,” police said in a statement.

“SRPD takes all threats seriously and is committed to ensuring that students, parents, and faculty are safe while attending school.

“We are grateful to the parents and students who did the right thing and notified SRPD immediately upon seeing the social media post. This is a perfect example of, ‘See something, say something.’

SRPD will continue to monitor social media posts and will provide important information to Davidson Middle School officials as this investigation is still active.

This case will be forwarded to the Marin County District Attorney’s Office for review. The suspect’s identity is being withheld because they are a juvenile, police said.
