EAST BAY, Calif. — The Regional Sideshow Enforcement Task Force (R.E.S.E.T.) conducted a major crackdown on illegal sideshows in the East Bay on February 15, leading to multiple arrests and vehicle impoundments.

The operation, a collaboration between the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and local law enforcement agencies, aimed to suppress reckless driving activities that endanger public safety.

R.E.S.E.T., which includes CHP - Golden Gate Division Air Operations, CHP - Oakland, CHP - Hayward, the Alameda County Sheriff's Office, and the San Leandro Police Department, deployed both ground and aerial units to track and apprehend offenders.

Helicopter units from CHP-H30 and Alameda County Sheriff’s ALCO 1 provided aerial support, assisting in multiple pursuits that resulted in the successful capture of all suspects involved.

Enforcement actions led to several vehicle impoundments, the recovery of multiple stolen vehicles, and arrests for DUI, reckless driving, and felony evasion:

• 11 arrests (6 misdemeanors and 5 felonies)
• 138 traffic stops
• 2 firearms recovered
• 58 citations
• 12 probation searches
• 16 vehicles towed

Officials emphasized that such operations are critical in deterring dangerous and illegal activities that have become increasingly common in the region.

“Sideshows pose a significant risk to both participants and innocent bystanders,” said a CHP spokesperson. “Through coordinated enforcement efforts, we are committed to holding offenders accountable and making our roadways safer for everyone.”
