Bay Area Boy, 13, Accused Of Supermarket Homicide: Police

The young teen was taken into custody at his school, although the killing happened inside a supermarket.

SAN LEANDRO, CA — A 13-year-old boy was taken into custody at his school on suspicion of homicide. He has since been charged by the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. The boy's name has not been released.

The killing took place inside a San Leandro supermarket on April 2.

According to San Leandro Police, the boy got into a dispute with 18-year-old Zion Gooden inside the Safeway store at 555 Bancroft Avenue. Officers arrived around 5:15 p.m. and found the victim suffering from stab wounds to his chest and arm. He died at a hospital later that evening.

Investigators interviewed witnesses and looked at surveillance footage of the crime. The suspect was eventually identified from the surveillance images.

The boy was arrested on May 16 in a neighboring jurisdiction.

Police served a search warrant at his residence and found additional evidence linking him to the crime, they report.
