SAN LEANDRO, CA — More than a dozen cats were found abandoned outside a San Leandro hospital, police said Tuesday.

The police department shared photos of a few of the 15 cats, from kittens to full-grown felines, that officials said were dumped at a Kaiser hospital. Police urged pet owners to act responsibly and avoid similar situations in the future.

"Dumping your unwanted pets on the street is cruel," San Leandro PD said on its Facebook page. "You are leaving them to fend for themselves. You are leaving them to suffer from hunger, thirst, and the elements. Your pets will feel distressed and confused because they have been left on their own in an unfamiliar place."
