When crews arrived at the scene, they found the house engulfed in flames and quickly called in a second alarm, said Alameda County Fire Department spokesperson Cheryl Hurd.
There were nine people in the home when the fire broke out and although some escaped injury, six were taken to the hospital. Two of them died.
The cause of the blaze is still under investigation, although Hurd said it appeared to have started inside the house.
