Cherry Festival Returns To San Leandro

A parade, farmer's market, live music and plenty of fun ruled the day celebrating San Leandro's rich history with its favorite fruit.

SAN LEANDRO, CA — The San Leandro Cherry Festival is returned to the city after a three-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic and this year’s event brought a strong sense of community identity and pride to the San Leandro community, organizers said.

The always popular Cherry Festival Parade, which has honored San Leandro’s heritage as the former cherry-growing capital of the region since 1909, stepped off in downtown San Leandro on Saturday, June 3, along Parrot Street and East 14th Street shortly after 10 a.m.

Other events throughout the day included live music and entertainment, games, vendors, food, drinks and much more.

After the parade, attendees were invited to explore historic downtown San Leandro, enjoy lunch, and support local businesses.

One highlight of the day was the special Farmers’ Market at its new location – San Leandro Main Library, featuring plenty of cherries.
