SAN LEANDRO, CA — The man identified by investigators as the getaway driver in the 2022 robbery and homicide of a security guard at Kaiser Hospital in San Leandro, was arrested by a savvy California Highway Patrol officer in Southern California on Memorial Day. The suspect, Artemio Torres, 28, was returned to Alameda County on Monday.

The robbery and shooting death happened in September 2022. The security guard was shot and killed by one of the suspects during the robbery. The suspected shooter, Akbar Bey, 28, of Oakland, was arrested by SLPD in October of 2022.

On May 27, a CHP officer conducted a traffic stop on a car for a vehicle registration violation in the coastal city of Oxnard, in Ventura County. According to San Leandro Police, the driver gave a false ID to the CHP officer.

The CHP officer wasn't fooled, and learned that the driver was really Torres, with an outstanding arrest warrant from San Leandro.

With Torres' arrest, there are no further outstanding suspects in the case.

Torres is facing felony robbery charges, according to SLPD.
