Cops Rejected Service At California Coffee Shop

The owner of Hasta Muerte Coffee in Oakland apparently does not like police officers.

OAKLAND, CA -- Any police officers looking for a cup of freshly brewed coffee shouldn't bother stopping by an Oakland coffee shop. Hasta Muerte Coffee employees are apparently refusing to serve the men and women in uniform.

An employee reportedly refused to serve a sergeant when he stopped by Hasta Muerte Coffee at 2701 Fruitvale Avenue, KTVU reported.

Workers at the coffee shop declined to comment about the lack of service to the media, but "Oakland City Councilmember Noel Gallo, who represents the Fruitvale District, spoke to cafe managers Thursday and confirmed it's still the business' unwritten policy not to serve the men and women in blue," KTVU reported.

The news station said the business is relatively new and that "it's a worker-owned collective with a decidedly anti-establishment bent. A mural and utility box outside the cafe decriy fatal police shootings and law enforcement militarization."
