San Leandro Man Arrested In Connection With NorCal Burglary Spree: Sheriff (patch.com) — Residents in San Leandro are learning that a 30-year-old local man is among four people arrested after a string of early-morning burglaries at stores in Lake and Mendocino counties. Deputies stopped a suspect vehicle on Highway 20 and reported finding cash, burglary tools, and assorted stolen merchandise, then linked the group to three separate break-ins before booking them on multiple charges.
   

2. San Leandro Police Seek Public's Help in Locating At-Risk Missing Person Lonnie Ray Bluitt Jr. (hoodline.com) — San Leandro police are urgently asking residents to help find 63-year-old at-risk resident Lonnie Ray Bluitt Jr., last seen after leaving a local hospital near the 13800 block of E. 14th Street. Because he needs ongoing medical care, officers urge anyone who spots him to call 911 immediately or contact San Leandro Police with any tips to help bring him home safely.
   

3. CHP's Operation Silent Night arrests 13 during statewide organized retail theft investigation (antiochherald.com) — San Leandro was one of four cities where CHP’s Operation Silent Night carried out coordinated raids on December 11, arresting 13 suspects and seizing thousands of allegedly stolen items. Investigators say the statewide retail theft network moved goods through flea markets across Northern California, and prosecutors in Placer County have now filed multiple organized retail theft and conspiracy charges.
   

4. Man dies after being struck by freight train in Oakland (mercurynews.com) — A man was killed Tuesday night after being struck by a Union Pacific freight train while walking on the tracks near 66th Avenue and Coliseum Way in East Oakland. Authorities note this is the second fatal train strike in just over a month in the same area, following a November death near 60th Avenue and San Leandro Street, underscoring ongoing rail-safety concerns close to San Leandro.
