East Bay Library Is Getting A Revamp
A library in the East Bay will be demolished and replaced with a new, larger facility.
SAN LEANDRO, CA — The Mulford-Marina Branch Library, which was constructed in 1975, will soon be demolished so that a "new, larger facility" can be built on the site, the City of San Leandro announced Tuesday.
To celebrate the "Mulford-Marina Branch Library Project," a groundbreaking ceremony will take place Friday at 4 p.m. at 13699 Aurora Drive, near Fairway Drive.
"The current library is in great need of extensive maintenance repairs," said city officials. "The new facility will be a welcome resource to the neighborhood and incorporate emerging technology and best practices in library design."

The new library will have approximately 2,500 square feet of additional space, expanding from 1,260 square feet to 3,900 square feet, officials shared. It will feature a multipurpose room, a children's alcove, outdoor seating and a terrace, and an updated public landscape area with walking paths.
The new building will also be "in compliance with the latest code requirements" related to accessibility, flood safety and earthquake resiliency, said city officials.

"The Mulford-Marina Branch Library Project will replace the existing aging library at the corner of Aurora Drive and Fairway Drive with a larger and more modern facility to serve the needs of the Mulford neighborhood and surrounding communities," said city officials.
Funding for the project included a $4 million grant from the Building Forward Library Infrastructure Program and an $800,000 donation from the San Leandro Library Foundation.
Construction on the project will get underway this month, with an anticipated completion date of October 2026.
