Gunman Arrested Following Convenience Store Robbery

Police used surveillance video to track the suspect.

SAN LEANDRO, CA — An Oakland man was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of robbing a convenience store in San Leandro, according to police.

At about 2:15 p.m., officers were sent to the Quik Stop on MacArthur Boulevard in San Leandro on a report of an armed robbery.

Investigators learned that man had brandished a handgun in the store and demanded money from the clerk. The clerk handed over the cash and the suspect took off in a vehicle that had been reported as stolen, according to police.

Using public safety cameras, detectives zeroed in on Deamous McKinley, 51, and located him in the allegedly stolen vehicle near the area of Foothill Boulevard and 23rd Avenue in Oakland. With the aid of the Oakland Police air unit, McKinley was arrested and a handgun and cash were allegedly recovered as well.

McKinley was booked into jail on suspicion of robbery, possession of a stolen vehicle and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
