Homicide Suspect Charged In San Leandro Death: Police
The victim was a 78-year-old man who worked at a gas station where the killing took place.
SAN LEANDRO, CA — Dennis Lee, 40, of Stockton, was charged Monday with murder and weapons violations by the Alameda County District Attorney’s office for a killing that happened in San Leandro on Feb. 22.
The San Leandro Police Department reports that the victim, Wadih Badran, 78, was an employee of the Speedway Gas Station at 14880 E. 14th Street. Witnesses told police that the suspect and victim argued after Lee was found loitering behind the business. "During the confrontation, Lee came up behind the victim and shoved him into a pole," police said, "causing head and neck trauma that proved to be fatal."
Badran was pronounced dead by the Alameda County Fire Department.
Lee was last seen running into a nearby neighborhood. Officers and Detectives conducted an extensive search of the area for the suspect, witnesses, and surveillance footage.
Investigators identified Lee from a combination of surveillance video, Flock Public Safety camera footage, and forensic evidence.
Lee was arrested last Friday near his home in Stockton with the assistance of deputies from the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office.
Search warrants were executed at his home, as well as his parents’ home in Castro Valley. Investigators recovered the clothing worn by Lee during the homicide, along with two illegally possessed firearms, police report.
