'Hunting People Down For No Reason.' Boyfriend Of Slain Dog Walker Describes Shooting: Report
The boyfriend of the victim, who was with her when the shooting occurred, has shared that he's devastated by it.
SAN LEANDRO, CA – The boyfriend of a woman who was shot and killed in San Leandro while walking her dogs this month says that her death has left him "in the dark,” according to KRON4.
Alan Wallace described shooting victim Casey Way as his “best friend” and as his “light,” KRON4 reported.
Way, 41, was shot after 11 p.m. July 17 while walking her dogs with Wallace on the 1800 block of East 14th St. She was transported to a local hospital but died as a result of her injuries.

Wallace and the dogs were unharmed.
Wallace told KRON4 that a driver in a car pulled over, got out and asked Way and him for directions before opening fire.

"I turned around [and] tried to help her. She was bleeding, way too bad," he said to KRON4.
The San Leandro Police Department arrested Rohith Sunil, a 21-year-old San Jose man, shortly after the incident. Sunil is accused of shooting and killing Way and will be tried for murder, Alameda County District Attorney Ursula Jones Dickson announced.
“The suspect exited the vehicle and accosted the couple. After a brief interaction, the suspect drew a firearm and shot the victim once in the torso," San Leandro Police Department officials stated. "The suspect then got back into his car and fled the scene.”
Sunil has also been charged with assault with a semi-automatic gun and carrying a loaded weapon in public, both of which are felonies. The charges against Sunil include sentencing enhancements for the personal use of a firearm, Dickson confirmed.
The incident was captured on surveillance video. Police have not publicly identified a motive for the slaying.
"Hunting people down, for what? For no reason whatsoever. ... That guy needs to be put in a box somewhere," Wallace told KRON4.
"All in all, she's gone, and that's what I get to deal with right now. I love her so much," he added.
If convicted, Sunil could be sentenced to up to 50 years to life in state prison.
