It's Not Too Late To Join San Leandro Library’s Summer Reading Program

The reading and activities program for all ages runs through Aug. 1.

SAN LEANDRO, CA — “Find Your Voice” is the theme for the San Leandro Library’s annual Summer Library Program and ages are encouraged to join.

The Summer Library Program is a reading and activities program for all ages that runs through Aug. 1, the San Leandro Library explained in an email to Patch.com.

"Participants earn points when they read or complete fun activities," the library said, adding that kids and teens then use their points to "buy" prizes from the prize board.

Adults will use their points for tickets for weekly drawings and everyone who earns 80 points by Aug. 1 will get a finisher prize packet with an invitation to one of three special events based on the age of the reader — Summer Carnival for Kids on Aug. 5, the Teen Party on Aug. 11 or the Adult Finale on Aug. 18.

"Kids who finish the program will also receive a free pass to the Lawrence Hall of Science, a free Mini Murph pizza courtesy of Papa Murphy’s Greenhouse Marketplace and a pass for a free recreation swim at a San Leandro pool," the library said.

According to the email, the library will also offer a plethora of free events throughout the summer, including story times, weekly activities for kids and teens, family movies, and entertaining and educational adult programs and events.

"Check the Library’s online calendar or follow us on social media to learn more," the library said.

“Summer Library Programs have been proven to maintain or improve reading ability, especially when kids are not in school,” Library Director Brian Simons said. “And libraries, especially in the summer, are so much more than just reading. Our libraries are committed to supporting lifelong learning and educational enrichment for all families and community members through programs, performers, and hands-on learning activities. We encourage everyone to join the free Summer Library Program.”
