Man Convicted Of Shooting 4-Year-Old San Leandro Boy

SAN LEANDRO, CA — A 34-year-old man was convicted of attempted murder this week for a shooting that injured a 4-year-old child last year in San Leandro.
Adam Abraham Johnson was convicted Wednesday, after a jury trial, for shooting at an occupied home on Feb. 24, 2024, the Alameda County District Attorney's Office said.
Johnson used a tracking device to find a vehicle that he had reported stolen, prosecutors said. When he found the car in the driveway of a home in the 400 block of West Juana Street in San Leandro, Johnson fired a semi-automatic handgun at the person he believed had stolen his car, according to the district attorney's office.

Johnson also fired multiple rounds from his handgun at a window of the home, and the gunfire struck a 4-year-old child who was sitting on a couch in the living room, prosecutors said.
The child was treated at Children's Hospital in Oakland for a gunshot wound.

"We are grateful that the bullet that struck this innocent victim did not take this child's life. Mr. Johnson, as a convicted felon, should never have had the gun that he used in the first place," said District Attorney Ursula Jones Dickson.
The jury found Johnson guilty of multiple felonies, including two counts of attempted murder, shooting at an inhabited dwelling, two counts of assault with a firearm, and possession of a firearm by a felon.
Johnson faces an increased sentence for his prior conviction of robbery, using a firearm in the commission of the attempted murder, as well as the infliction of great bodily injury on the child victim.
Johnson faces up to 39 1/2 years in prison and is scheduled to be sentenced on July 11 at the East County Hall of Justice in Dublin.
