Person, 2 Dogs Rescued From 2-Alarm Fire

Four people and two dogs were displaced by the San Leandro fire.

SAN LEANDRO, CA — The Alameda County Fire Department responded to a two-alarm structure fire early Saturday morning in the 800 block of Melcher Street, where firefighters rescued one resident and two pets.

Crews arrived at the scene around 2:02 a.m. and worked to contain the fire, which had spread through the backyard and threatened three structures, including the main house.

Nearly two dozen firefighters, along with two battalion chiefs, responded to the blaze. Members from Engine 10 were able to locate and safely evacuate a person and two dogs from the building.

Although the fire was confined to the yard, the main house sustained smoke and fire damage. Four residents and two dogs were displaced by the incident, and the Red Cross provided immediate assistance.

There were no major injuries reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
