San Leandro 250 To Host Community Garden Event
The Jan. 7 Native Plant Day at the Community Garden is co-sponsored by Homegrown Habitats San Leandro.
SAN LEANDRO, CA — Residents and visitors alike are invited to join San Leandro 2050 and Homegrown Habitats San Leandro for a special Native Plant Day at the Community Garden Jan. 7.
Co-Sponsored by the two groups, the event features a lesson on native plants and how they benefit the environment and a backyard garden. Participants will also take group planting of a native plants-only bed at the community garden at Bethel Presbyterian Church, 14235 Bancroft Avenue in San Leandro.
"California native plants are not only beautiful and adapted to our climate, they also support bees, bugs, butterflies and birds much better than non-native ornamentals," the group said in a news release.

"In case of rain, we will stay in the roof-covered area next to the garden for the plants show & tell, native plant Q&A, seed & seedlings give-away and other activities, postponing the actual planting," organizers said.
