San Leandro Appoints New Chief Technology Officer

Michael Sinor took the reins at the city's Information Technology Department Aug. 8.

SAN LEANDRO, CA — San Leandro has appointed Michael Sinor as the city’s new chief technology officer, according to a news release issued by the city late last month.

Sinor, who was appointed by City Manager Fran Robustelli, started his position with the city Monday, Aug. 8, the news release said.

According to the July 28 release, Sinor “brings decades of local government experience” with him to the position.

Sinor, who holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California, Santa Cruz, began working in city government as an analyst for the city of Roseville where he was subsequently promoted to leadership positions gaining experience “delivering innovative technology solutions for increased staff productivity and customer service efficiency,” along the way, the news release reported.

Sinor also worked as the interim information technology director for the city of Berkley, where he oversaw an IT department of 50 employees.

“It is a pleasure to appoint Michael to this innovative role,” Robustelli said. “Michael’s proven track record in local government will help elevate or positively rethink our city’s IT programs and processes. I am grateful Michael will use his talents, skills, and abilities to help each city department so they can better serve our San Leandro residents and stakeholders.”

According to the news release, Sinor’s appointment filled the vacancy created by former Chief Technology Officer Tony Batalla after he accepted another public sector opportunity. As the Chief Technology Officer, Sinor, who has a certification from the Certified Government Chief Information Officer Program from Rutgers University, is responsible for the city’s information management and services to city departments, technology innovation, telecommunications, the city’s free Wi-Fi and central services.
