It's Not Too Late To Run For San Leandro City Council.

The offices of The Mayor and Council Districts 1, 3 and 5 are up for grabs in the city of San Leandro's municipal election Nov. 8, 2022.

SAN LEANDRO, CA — The offices of The Mayor and Council Districts 1, 3 and 5 are up for grabs in the city of San Leandro’s municipal election Nov. 8, 2022, and those hoping to secure a spot on the ballot only have three days to file their nomination packet.

The nomination period opened July 18, 2022, and ends at 5 p.m. Aug. 12, 2022. Those interested in running for office need to obtain a nomination packet which includes all the forms needed to run for office. If an incumbent does not file nomination papers by 5 p.m. Friday, August 12, 2022, the nomination period will be extended until Wednesday, August 17, 2022, the city said.

According to the San Leandro elections website, the City Clerk’s office will provide nomination packets and general guidelines to those candidates interested in running for office.

To run for an office with the city, potential candidates must be a resident of the city at the time of filing nomination papers and for a period of 30 days immediately preceding the date of filing and a resident of the district for which they are seeking office at the time of filing nomination papers also for 30 days immediately preceding the date of filing, the city said.

Potential candidates need to obtain the signatures of at least 20, but not more than 30, registered voters in the district they are running for, the city said.

Those running for office will need to include a ballot designation and can submit a candidate statement no more than 200 words, according to election code. Candidate statements are published in the sample ballot and mailed to all registered voters, the city said. Candidates who choose not to submit a candidate statement, will be responsible for the cost of printing, translating and publishing the statement in the sample ballot.
