San Leandro Main Library To Host Author Talk With Wendy Wimmer
Author Wendy Wimmer's debut book "Entry Level" was selected by Deesha Philyaw as the winner of the 2021 Autumn House Fiction Prize.

SAN LEANDRO, CA — Authors from San Leandro and the surrounding communities are invited to come to the city's, main library, 300 Estudillo Avenue, Thursday, Oct. 20 at 6:30 p.m. for an Author Talk and Writing Workshop with short story author Wendy Wimmer.
Wimmer's debut collection "Entry Level" is in now in it's third printing and was selected by Deesha Philyaw as the winner of the 2021 Autumn House Fiction Prize.
During the workshop, Wimmer — who brings a unique perspective of experience from formal training as a Ph.D. to decades of experience writing for magazines and other publications — will share a wealth of knowledge to help authors get published, according to a news release issued by the city of San Leandro.

She will show attendees what she looks for when selecting work and the kinds of hooks that "grab a reader from the first paragraph — or even the first sentence — and keep them invested in reading on," the news release said.
According
to the news release, Wimmer will also share an "Editor/Agent test" for each author's first page and also "reveal some opening page mistakes" that both novice and advanced writers commonly make."

Using real life examples of first pages from the publishing, classics and literary world, Wimmer will give time to talk through each author's own first pages live, the news release said.
Door prizes of her book will be available for attendees.
