SAN LEANDRO, CA — Are you one of the 20.89 million people who bought a live Christmas tree this year? If so, you may want to take advantage of Alameda County Industries' Christmas Tree Recycling program during the first two weeks of January.

To take advantage of the program single-family homes should place their Christmas trees less than six feet tall curbside on their scheduled collection day. Trees over 6-feet tall should be cut in half.

"Please remove all lights, decorations, tinsel and the stand before placing your tree out next to your carts," Alameda County Industries said. "Please do not place the tree in any type of plastic wrap or bag."

According to ACI, tree collection will be done using a special truck that might arrive much earlier or much later than regular trucks.

"Small trees may be placed inside your organics cart if you prefer; just be sure to cut it into small pieces that won’t get stuck in the cart, and make sure the lid will fully close," ACI said.
