Body camera footage has been released of the Jan. 3 shooting. Warning: It's graphic.

OAKLAND, CA -- Authorities on Wednesday released body camera footage of an Oakland shooting that left one man dead and sent another to the hospital. The shooting happened Jan. 3 near the West Oakland BART station.

The graphic video shows BART police officer Joseph Mateu leaving the station and pointing the gun at two men on the ground in the area of 7th and Chester streets.

Mateu screams "Let me see your hands. Let me see your hands" before firing his gun. One man is shot, while another is seen raising his hands. Shaleem Tindle, 28, was later identified as the victim of the shooting.

At the time of the shooting, authorities said Oakland Police Department received a request for assistance when officers found the two suspects.

Oakland police officials, who are leading the investigation, said Tindle was armed and refused commands when Mateu shot him. The man Tindle was struggling with was also shot, but so far investigators have declined to say whether he was shot by Tindle or Mateu.

But after viewing the video in a private screening, an attorney for Tindle's family, civil rights attorney John Burris, disputed the police account, saying that Tindle did not appear to be armed and was given insufficient time to comply.

Burris called for the officer to face criminal charges and said he had filed a claim with the BART Police Department.
