Wilma Chan Memorial Next Wednesday

SAN LEANDRO, CA — A community celebration honoring the legacy of Alameda County Supervisor Wilma Chan, San Leandro's supervisor, will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 8, in Oakland.

Chan died Nov. 3 after she was hit by a vehicle while walking her dog in Alameda.

"We remember and honor Wilma as a champion of community, a fierce leader, and a trusted colleague," the county said in its announcement of the ceremony. "She devoted her career to helping the underserved and uninsured, with a passion for children, families and seniors, early childhood education, environmental health, job creation and economic development."

The event begins at 2 p.m. at the Oakland Museum of California Garden, 1000 Oak St. in Oakland.

The Alameda County Board of Supervisors and the non-profit Vision Alameda County (VAC) have established the Wilma Chan Legacy Fund, which will support grants to community non-profits and other eligible programs serving a public purpose. Donations to the Alameda County Supervisor Wilma Chan Legacy Fund can be made can be made online.
