SAN MATEO, CA — Three people who drove a stolen car to a mall to commit retail theft were arrested Tuesday morning in San Mateo, according to police.

In a news release Wednesday, the San Mateo Police Department said its officers learned of a stolen vehicle near the Hillsdale Shopping Center shortly after 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. An officer found the stolen Ford Mustang in a handicap parking stall a few minutes later and tracked down surveillance video while they waited for task force agents to arrive.

Officers determined the vehicle had been occupied by a woman and man and later witnessed a second woman standing next to the vehicle and talking to the pair. According to police, officers watched the two women walk into a Sephora, leaving the man behind in the vehicle where he was arrested.
