CHP Officer Hits, Kills Pedestrian On Highway 92

The deadly collision left one pedestrian dead and the eastbound lanes of the highway closed for several hours in San Mateo.

SAN MATEO, CA — A CHP officer struck and killed a pedestrian late Wednesday on Highway 92 in San Mateo, leaving all eastbound lanes closed into the early morning hours Thursday.

A CHP spokesperson told The Mercury News that the fatal collision happened just after 10 p.m. near Delaware Street. Eastbound lanes were fully closed by 10:40 p.m. and would not reopen until after 3:30 a.m. Thursday.

The name of the officer involved in the crash was not immediately released, and the identity of the person killed will not be disclosed until authorities confirm their family has bee notified. An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
