Convicted Peninsula Animal Abuser Gets 6 Months

SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA — A Peninsula man convicted of animal abuse last month was sentenced to six months in county jail Tuesday, the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office said.
Jacob Daniel Anderson, 23 of Foster City, pleaded no contest in March to felony animal abuse in connection with two incidents in early 2021 on the condition that he would serve no more than a year in county jail and that he would serve no prison time, the DA’s Office said.
Anderson was also placed on probation for two years and ordered to pay over $3,000 in restitution and fines, the DA’s Office said. He was credited with one day for time served.

Anderson on Jan. 8, 2021 brought a husky mix puppy (about 5-to 6-weeks old) Mando to a SAGE Veterinary Center in Redwood City with severe respiratory distress.
An examination determined the dog had three fractured ribs, vision impairment and neck swelling among multiple injuries consistent with head trauma or strangulation, the DA’s Office said.

On Jan. 23, the Peninsula Humane Society responded to a complaint of a dog heard whimpering and crying from Anderson’s apartment complex, the DA’s Office said.
PHS veterinarians determined the 3-month-old Pitbull puppy named Maverick suffered swelling around their neck and other injuries consistent with trauma or strangulation, the DA’s Office said.
