DUI Checkpoint Time And Place Announced For This San Mateo County Town

Police said they will be conducting an upcoming DUI checkpoint and have just announced when and where.

SAN MATEO, CA — The San Mateo police keep announcing where and when they will hold DUI checkpoints, but people keep getting arrested this summer.

From 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Aug. 28, the SMPD will hold another DUI checkpoint. This time it is at 9th Avenue and S. El Camino Real, police said.

“Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk, as well as themselves,” said Traffic Sergeant Nick Ryan. “Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improves traffic safety.”

Police said they determine DUI checkpoint locations based on data showing incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. Nationally more than 10,000 people a year are killed by drunk drivers, police said.

The SMPD said impaired driving extends beyond alcohol. Both prescription and over-the-counter medications can hinder driving ability. Even though medicinal and recreational cannabis are legal, driving under its influence is still against the law.
