Employee Punched Over Toothpaste Valued At $1.35 In Peninsula Robbery

The robber became confrontational with an employee who told him "not to steal," police said.

DALY CITY, CA — A Peninsula robber assaulted a store employee over a tube of toothpaste valued at $1.35 last week, Daly City police said.

The suspect is at large, according to police.

The robber is described as a 5-foot-10 man in his late 30’s to early 40’s who was wearing a black head cover, black sunglasses, a black blazer, blue jeans, black shoes, a black cloth mask, police said. He was carrying a black backpack.

Officers at around 2:45 p.m. Oct. 19 responded to the Dollar Tree at 6232 Mission St. on the report of a robbery, police said.

The robber initially became confrontational with an employee who told him “not to steal” after observing him place items from store shelves into his backpack, police said.

When a cashier asked the robber to remove the items from his backpack, the robber threatened to “beat up” the cashier after throwing a brown paper bag containing the toothpaste in front of the cashier’s feet, police said.

The robber picked up the bag containing the toothpaste and then pushed and punched an employee on the left side of his face as he exited the store, police said.

The robber was last seen walking northbound on Mission Street, police said.

The case is under investigation, police said.
