SAN MATEO COUNY, CA — There are many rallies planned for Saturday across San Mateo County in response to what they claim are Republicans plans for gerrymandering in Texas and other states.

The events will take place all over San Mateo County and are organized by locals through INDIVISIBLE SAN MATEO, Public Citizen and Texas For All. Organizers claim it is to support Texas House Democrats who are denying quorum in order to stop what they say is President Donald Trump’s “attempt to rig the 2026 midterm elections.”\

“Trump isn’t stopping in Texas. He’s targeting Missouri, Ohio, Florida, and every state he can twist to help him steal Congress next year. States like California and New York are starting to fight back,” rally organizers said.

Republicans aim to complicate Democratic efforts to gain control of the closely contested U.S. House in 2026. A Republican state representative from Texas justified this strategy to CNN, stating it is "good for our party." This sentiment was echoed by Trump, who claimed the GOP is "entitled to five more seats" in the state.

This situation has prompted Democrats to vow retaliation. They have pledged to respond by engaging in similar tactics in states where they have the power to redraw electoral maps, such as California. Additionally, other states, both Republican and Democratic, are reportedly considering their own significant map revisions.

“Let’s be clear: this fight started in Texas, but it doesn’t end there. This isn’t just about redistricting or one state’s politics. It’s about the future of our democracy. Trump is terrified of the American people. He knows he can’t win on his ideas, so he’s trying to take Congress by hook or by crook — and he’s doing it by silencing the voices of communities of color. We’re not going to let that happen,” rally organizers said.

Texas will host an anchor rally in Austin. Organizers are asking people nationwide to gather at state houses, city halls, or community spaces to oppose Trump's actions.
