Mountain Lion Spotted in San Carlos

The animal crossed in front of a driver's car.

A mountain lion was spotted by a motorist in San Carlos late Monday night, San Mateo County emergency officials said.

The animal crossed in front of the driver's car in the 300 block of Melendy Drive, east of Crestview Drive and near Regent Court, at about 11 p.m., according to emergency officials.

The motorist immediately reported the sighting and sheriff's deputies arrived within minutes and conducted an extensive ground search of the area, but did not locate the animal.

No other people were in the area at that time, and public safety was not immediately threatened, emergency official said.

Anyone who encounters a mountain lion is encouraged to stay clear of the animal and call police immediately.
